Training Together at SAWMAK Karate

My 10-year-old son Alexander and I joined SAWMAK last year, and it’s quickly become something we look forward to each week.

The sessions are a good mix of learning techniques, practising sparring, and having fun along the way. Training together has been a great experience for both of us — it’s not often you find a hobby that works equally well for parent and child.

The instructors — Paul, Mike and Alan — are patient and knowledgeable, always taking the time to explain things properly. They strike just the right balance of encouragement and discipline, which makes the classes welcoming for all ages and abilities.

It’s also nice to see so many other families training side by side and even grading together. There’s a real sense of community at the club, which makes the effort of turning up each week well worth it.

For Alexander and myself, SAWMAK has become a chance to learn new skills, get a bit fitter, and enjoy some time together outside the usual routine. We also learn some valuable self defence skills.
